Highgate Cemetery Infrared and Monochrome London Photography Day

A one day walking tour of Highate West and East Cemetery concentrating on infrared and monochrome photography

Fully Booked

Price

£100.00

Dates

7th May 2024

Join Michael Eleftheriades and David Clapp for a one day special access infrared and monochrome photography tour to Highgate Cemetery, London.

We meet at 10:30am and finish our photography around 5pm.

Highgate Cemetry is our fabulous location for this one day walking and discovery photograhy tour of one of London's most iconic Victorian locations. Highgate is the last resting place of many famous and important people, but it is also a superb place for black and white / infrared photography.

The East Cemetery is managed but incredibly overgrown in places and this makes for beautiful and haunting images, all within easy walking distance. The West Cemetery can only be accessed on a guided tour, but Michael has arranged a special access photography centred tour for us so we will get a guide who has our photography as his focus rather the usual tourist trail.

Highgate Cemetery Infrared and Monochrome London Photography Day

The site is large and expansive, with many different compositional opportunities. With my expert guidance using infrared cameras, this is a really exciting opportunity to create haunting and memorable infrared and monochrome imagery. It is also perfect for black and white and even a black and white film approach.

I do hope you can make it on this my first infrared one day event. It really is a unique opportunity to explore Highgate from a photographic perspective with expert guidance and photography tuition.

Additional Information

  • Where do we meet?

The entrance of Archway Underground Station at 10:30am.

  • What does fitness level 'Easy' mean?

You need to be capable of walking for a sustained period, along paths and up moderate inclines. There will be no strenuous activity but it is advised that you take walks before the trips so you can cope with active photography wearing a camera bag.

  • What about food?

We will book a table a Cote Brasserie in Archway for lunch around 1:30pm.

  • Are you shooting dawns and sunsets?

No. This is a 10:30 > 17:00 experience day. The work will concentrate on creative monochromatic and infrared photography which can be done without the need for dawn / evening light.

  • What clothing?

This is a light tour in early summer, but as usual the weather in the Uk can change fast, so please bring a light waterproof and trousers if it looks like rain. Waterproof walking shoes and a fleece layer would work well.

  • What camera kit do I bring?

I always say ‘bring everything’, but this is not the case. You won’t need a tripod and as this is a walking tour I suggest you limit what you carry to the essentials… but I would say a 24-105 and a 100-400 (or there about) will cover literally all bases. I will explain how to get the best out of the day with the equipment you have.

  • Do I need an infrared camera?

No, but I will be shooting infrared exclusively throughout the day, which I hope will inspire those who have never experienced the medium. So much of this wonderful location can be photographed in B&W.

  • Colour Imagery?

Of course! There are no restrictions on what we do. I will no doubt be shooting every format I can carry, including film!
