With castles, vineyards and canals all on the foothills of the Pyrenees, join David Clapp in a fabulous workshop photographing the staggering beauty of the Cathars in the warmth and beauty of springtime Languedoc.
The trip is based in Cuxac D’Aude, a small village a few miles from Narbonne, situated near the meandering Canal Du Midi. We will start the trip with an easy pace, exploring the painterly landscape of the canal, soaking up the French lifestyle whilst learning the land. We will be taking full advantage of colour, shooting swathes of spring flowers, in particular fields of beautiful poppies that grow in abundance this time of year. Next we shall visit some of the most exciting castles in the region including the incredible La Cite de Carcassonne, with trips to the beautiful towns of Lagrasse, Minerve and more.
We will be staying in a fully renovated 19th Century ‘maison des maitre vigneronne’, a beautiful three storey house, all with ensuite facilities. Breakfast will be included as well as packed lunch each day, but participants will be expected to purchase their own evening meal as locations will vary depending on the itinerary. We shall not restrict ourselves to set evening meal times and take the opportunity to eat when practical.
Our hosts are Antony and Amanda Duff, a Cornish family who have lived in France for the past fifteen years. Antony will also be our expert guide, driver and interpreter whose geographical and historical knowledge is second to none. He clearly understands what makes a successful photography workshop as he himself is an accomplished artist and photographer.
The trip will last five days and six nights , giving the possibility of shooting daytime, sunset, twilight and even night time at chosen locations.
This week is ideal for photographers of all levels. Evenings will no doubt be filled with lively conversation and the opportunity to make new friends over dinner.
David will also spend a little time showing some of his work and to give constructive criticism on your photographs.

The tour is based in the city centre. The old town is located to the west of the coastline and although somewhat eclipsed, it too holds some truly spectacular historical subjects. Our time will naturally concentrate on the modern giant, but we will explore this city’s historical foundations with trips to some remarkable buildings and stunning features. Valencia cathedral, is one notable excursion, but consider the Plaza Del Torros as well as an array of Art Deco buildings to uncover.
The City of Arts and Sciences consists of six main centres, which shall be explored intently – the Science Museum, the Oceanographic (aquarium), Hemisphere (IMAX cinema), Palaus de les Arts (opera house), Umbracle (palmed scenic gardens), and the new Agora (multifunctional space). All represent some of the most incredible photographic opportunities in Europe and literally all are thankfully tripod friendly. Capture abstracts, classic architecture and city vistas with comfort and ease in the warmth of the Mediterranean sun.
With cafes, bars and shops always nearby, expect to feel relaxed yet focused on creating some great images. There’s even a wonderful art deco indoor market with breads fruits and olives to sample after a few shots. Infrastructure and transport are frequent and modern should it be required, but it’s a comfort to know that much of Valencia’s attractions are just a light stroll away.

I am offering a completely new service to complement my popular one-on-one workshops. If you believe you have reached a wall you can’t climb over or your photography is starting to stagnate, then hire me to point you back on the road to success.
As a teacher for the last eight years, I fully understand the dilemmas associated with learning any creative endeavour. You often end up feeling somewhat alienated and baffled by the overwhelming amount of information there is to absorb and skills there are to master. Despite its immediate appeal, photography is perhaps one of the most complicated, as you swing from artistic to technical control.
With a confident delivery, patience, friendly manner I can supply individuals or groups with focused and clear tuition, of any age, ability or learning style. Back this up with digital help for your reference and you will be surprised at the pace you will learn.
If you need unrivalled help with post processing techniques then look no further. Many clients have asked for a full day of computer based tuition, from RAW processing to extensive use of Photoshop, but part of every day will include help in this area.
It is a full day, from morning until dusk. You name it, I we can fix it. My tuition is based upon an intense look at your photographic process. Everything from your camera equipment, to digital workflow and artistic approach can be scrutinised and we will spend the day analysing not only how to get you back on track, but how to put some fire into your work.
Groups of 5 or more please call.
