Are you sick of trawling Youtube video totorials that don't target what you need to know? Or wading through forums full of oversaturated, manipulated images in search of the truth? Well look no further as help is at hand. I am running another Digital Weekender aimed at intermediate and advanced digital processing, split over two days in the sleepy Devon countryside, near Newton Abbot and I would love to have you onboard.
Yes, we all know we should shoot in RAW and save in 16bit, so let’s forget the basics and move straight to the core. The weekend is designed to amaze you with unrivalled state-of-the-art processing techniques, leaving you with the skills to make your images looking natural, evocative and lift your portfolio to a new and enviable standard. It’s the only one I am doing this year.
The workshop will run from Saturday into Sunday over the course of the day, but not in the evenings.
SATURDAY - Hard at it on the computers all day (10-5pm), leading into an evening of fun relaxing as agroup with an evening meal. If it’s good weather we may even go and take some images….
SUNDAY - Extensive work with complex Photoshop, but again, with plenty of breaks, time for discussion and tea and coffees.
This workshop is for those who already have a good understanding of the basics of image editing and are tired of the same old tutorial boredom. It will be example driven, with us all working on my images before getting you to process your own. Watch a presentation or two; all this will be projected, so it will be easy to follow and understand. Here’s what’s on the digital menu -
- How to create Images With Punch
- Contrast Masking and Luminosity Masking
- Creating Images with a Natural Look
- Exposure Blending Basics
- Making Complex Selections
- Making Actions to save hours of time
- Colour Managing your Images
- Super Web Sharpening Techniques
Ipplepen Village Hall in Newton Abbot, South Devon. The accommodation is based at the Four Seasons Guest House in Totnes. It’s at the end of the M5 and easy to reach by train. With access to Dartmoor and some spectacular coastline, this workshop location base can provide all manner of photographic opportunities just minutes away. Newton Abbot is approximately three hours on the train from London.
I would expect and intermediate at Photoshop to know their way round the interface and have a clear understanding of all the basics of RAW and simple Photoshop techniques, like simple Curves and Levels, Layer Masks, Adjustment Layers and Filters.
Over this weekend of projector lead tuition, you will receive RAW files and worksheets (paper and PDF) which will cover the whole course. They are yours to keep to take home and practice with. Learning will take place in convenient slots with timed breaks to help absorb and reflect on what you have just learned. Some of us are visual learners, others are prefer paper - the course will cater for both needs.
Laptop with Photoshop CS3 or higher (preferably CC). If you are not up to date, I do recommend downloading the trial version of Adobe Photoshop CC so that all participants are on software of a similar level. You can delete it afterwards. PLEASE ensure all updates are installed before the weekend to ensure a smooth start. Desktop computers are very welcome and their will be ample space
When techniques become more tricky, I always record my laptop screen, tailor making video for the entire class. After the weekend the video is rendered down to MP4 format and given to you on the Sunday.
Although it’s not a photography workshop in the outdoor sense, let’s not waste the opportunity should the weather be favourable. If you have any technical questions about camera techniques in relation to Lightroom and Photoshop, such as calibration, I am very happy to help.
Many of these weekends are delivered directly to camera clubs, helping members to improve their knowledge and understanding of photography. If you wish to make a direct booking for your club with me then please get in contact. I can tailor make specific courses to cover all manner of photographic subjects.
