  • This is Lone Pine. It's the first example I have that combines a torch lit image and a star tracked sky. This of course makes this image an exposure blend, but not in the conventional sense. Although it may not look as impressive as a low res, its an incredible hi-res, as all the stars are perfectly intact, without any trails whatsoever. First image for the ground was ISO800 for 30secs lit with a conventional torch. Then the tracker was turned on and a second image was made at ISO400 for 3mins, all using the Contax 35-70 f3.4 at f8. This naturally means the ground is going to blur, but its an easy cut out and montage to do. This image is just the starting point and doesn't represent the maximum potential whatsoever. For me, it's just the beginning of something truly wonderful in my workflow.

Le Bataille De Carcassone III

Who isnt inspired by David Noton's images of Carcassonne? I know I am, so much so that I took a sharp right off a main road when I saw this memorable shot of his appear in the side mirror. I returned later that evening and got some warm side light, but a crap sky. Still I was happy with this, considering I only went to the city twice in the trip....Carcassonne, Languedoc, France.
